Christian Leaders Must Speak Up About Evil Leaders, Not Remain Silent—Like in Nazi Germany
Hitler came to power without the vote of the people. Does that sound familiar?
Kamala Harris tries to compare Donald Trump to Hitler, yet the process of how Harris rose to power and events taking place in America for the last three-and-a-half years are eerily similar to the rise of Nazi Germany. Projection, anyone?
We must not forget history, or we are doomed to repeat it. Yet many important historical facts are not taught in American public schools. In 1932, Hitler challenged Paul von Hindenburg to be President of Germany. Hitler’s slogan was “freedom and bread”—promises of government handouts for more government control. Does that sound familiar?
On March 9, 1932, Hitler received 30 percent of the vote and von Hindenburg got 49 percent, just shy of the needed 50 percent to prevent a run-off election. Again, on April 10, 1932, an election was held between the two men and von Hindenburg won, beating Hitler by 17 points. Yet Hitler still retained significant influence, so von Hindenburg appointed him to be Chancellor of Germany. Adolf Hitler was put into power without the support of the German people. Does that sound familiar?
Soon after Hitler became chancellor, a national emergency was declared due to a fire in the Reichstag building—and civil liberties were suspended throughout the country. Germans could no longer hold public assemblies, the press was silenced, and police detained people without cause. Does that sound familiar?
Hitler began jailing—and later murdering—his political opponents to strengthen his position. Does that sound familiar?
Hitler appointed Joseph Goebbels to be the director of the new propaganda ministry. The goal was to control the narrative of schools, universities, radio, and the press. Goebbels said, “The national education of the German people will be placed in my hands.” Does that sound familiar?
When Nazism rose in 1933, Christian leaders failed to speak out against attacks on Jews. In fact, many so-called Christian leaders supported Hitler. The Catholic Church made a deal with the devil when they signed the Concordat of 1933, which permitted churches to control who was placed in church leadership and the ability to administer sacraments and hold services without Nazi interference. However, in exchange the Catholic church agreed that clergy would not engage in political activities. Does that sound familiar?
Don’t Bow to Government, Bow to God
In Nazi Germany there were some Christian leaders who did speak up, but many were too late. The famous quote by Martin Niemöller must never be forgotten:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Churches in America today have been persuaded that their nonprofit tax exemption is a gift from government that blocks them speaking out about our political leaders. Or worse, that Christians and the Bible have nothing to say about our government and laws. History has shown what happens with church leaders remain silent.
Pastor Gary Hamrick is the fearless shepherd of Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia. He is one of the few Christian leaders speaking up about the importance of voting for candidates who don’t give into Marxist, woke, pro-abortion ideologies. Pastor Gary does not shy away from talking about politics—in fact, he delivers an annual election sermon.
Pastor Gary points out that separation of church and state is not a constitutional principle. Thomas Jefferson coined the term and acknowledged that freedom to worship is protected by the Constitution and churches could practice their faith freely without government intrusion. Pastor Gary said the First Amendment is “given to us in part to keep the government out of the business of the church, not the church out of the business of government.”
The Johnson Amendment was added to the IRS code in 1954 and prohibits religious organizations and other non-profits receiving tax-exempt status from participating or intervening in “any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.” There are many concerns about the constitutionality of the Johnson Amendment, including whether it’s an unconstitutional condition placed on a federal benefit.
Many pastors and church leaders across the nation use the Johnson Amendment as an excuse to not speak the truth from the pulpit. In his recent election sermon, Pastor Gary said, “If I as a pastor don’t say to you what I’m confident God wants me to say for fear of losing our tax exemption, then I am bowing to government instead of God and I can’t do that.”
Fortunately, several Christian organizations joined together in August 2024 and filed a complaint in court challenging the Johnson Amendment’s restrictions. Michael Farris, the attorney who represents these groups said, “Our intent is to vindicate the right of every church and religious nonprofit to express what their faith teaches on every issue, including political matters, as is their right and their duty.”
Christian leaders across the nation must speak up before it’s too late. History must not be repeated.
Kamala Harris is promising handouts to buy votes.
Joe Biden was elected by the voters in a Democrat primary, yet he was ousted from his position and Kamala Harris was anointed.
Democrats like Tim Walz arrested people for daring to sit on their front porch during the COVID lockdowns and people were forced to take experimental “vaccines.”
The Democrat-controlled Justice Department is participating in political persecution of Republicans, chiefly Donald Trump.
Censorship by the government’s propaganda networks is a reality. The Democrats control the media message, as evidenced by CBS editing Kamala Harris’ interview.
Leftists in control of government fight against education freedom because they want government to control the minds of children—like Goebbels.
Most concerning of all, the Democrat-controlled IRS is attempting to silence Christian leaders. Cornerstone Chapel was fined for violating the Johnson Amendment, yet Kamala Harris holds political rallies in churches during Sunday worship and there are no consequences.
This two-tiered system of justice cannot continue. Don’t have the same regrets as Martin Niemöller—Christians must stand up now against this Democrat tyranny.
